Week 1: Traveling to Dublin

My journey began Friday night in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and after a long, sleepless overnight flight, I finally landed at Dublin International Airport early Saturday morning, an hour and a half ahead of schedule. I collected my baggage and made my way out of the terminal, only to realize that my ride hadn’t arrived yet. A quick phone call to the driver revealed that I’d be sharing the shuttle with two other Bucknell students, and we’d be heading to our apartments on the University College Dublin campus together. However, this meant I’d have to wait at the airport for another couple […]

Week 1: Arrival and Introductions

I’ve been looking forward to this program for a few months now, having arrived this past Saturday (June 7th), so far Dublin has not disappointed. I’m currently living on the campus of University College Dublin (UCD), and it’s quickly becoming a comfortable home base. The campus is beautiful, and is a nice retreat from the bustle of downtown. Adjusting to life here has been familiar, reminding me of the time I spent going to school in the UK, which I’ve really appreciated. It’s been nice to feel like I can help other people learn how to navigate living abroad without […]

First Days in Dublin

I landed in Dublin on Saturday, June 7th, around 10:30 am after a bumpy, sleepless flight. I made it through customs and picked up my luggage and golf clubs quickly. Later that day, we checked into our UCD housing, and my friend and I went out to Blackrock to shop for some essentials and get lunch. After a quick recovery nap, we spent the night in downtown Dublin and had the first Guinness of the trip on an open rooftop pub. The town was very lively, and it was a great night.  On Sunday, we headed to Dunbrooke Mall to […]

Week 1: Start of Bucknell in Dublin

My experience at Bucknell in Dublin so far has been gratifying. I am deeply grateful for this journey, and I look forward to the upcoming experiences ahead. I have had a fantastic time, and each day brings something different and meaningful.  I have enjoyed spending time on the campus at University College Dublin, as well as exploring other parts of Dublin. The view from our dorm is gorgeous, as are the views on campus and beyond. The nature here is lovely.  It has been fascinating to compare and contrast Dublin with other European English-speaking cities I have visited, such as […]

Nick Snyder: Ireland Week 1 – Arrival in the Emerald Isle

My first couple of days in Ireland were full of a lot of exciting things I saw and experienced. I landed in Dublin on Saturday June 7 around 11:00 AM Dublin time not in the best mood because I had gotten maybe an hour of sleep on the plane ride over from Newark, New Jersey. Even though I was pretty groggy, I ran through customs at the airport and was able to find a group of other Bucknell students in the program waiting for our driver. Once we walked over to the car and drove over to the beautiful campus […]

Lucie Cahill Week 1: Loving Dublin

The first few days of Dublin have been so exciting and filled with new experiences. Getting off the plane, I was really nervous but I quickly felt right at home as soon as I moved in and met my roommates. The first thing we did was go grocery shopping, and we made delicious penne a la vodka with chicken cutlet for dinner. This is the first time I’ve been responsible for cooking my own meals, and it’s been fun getting ingredients and planning everything out. On Sunday, we went shopping in Dublin and I loved walking around and seeing the […]
