I feel like a “real” adult in Dublin, Ireland!

Joseph Ha, Ireland: Week 1 Coming to Dublin, Ireland, I expected to adapt very quickly—something I’m usually good at, having traveled to many countries. However, I quickly realized that settling in might take about a week, which feels long for me. This time is different: I’m not just visiting as a tourist—I’m living a full adult life, working a 9-to-5 internship in a completely new country. Without my parents around, I’m responsible for everything from Monday to Friday, and that shift hit me hard. The realization truly set in on Tuesday, our first day of the internship. I’m working as […]

Gideon Daniels – Week 1 (Arrival)

This week, we arrived in Dublin for the start of the program. This is my first time traveling to Europe, so I was really excited to experience the cultural differences from what I am used to. Right away, I noticed the weather was more rainy and volatile than what I am used to. On the first day that I was here, I walked with some other students to the grocery store, which is about a 30-minute walk from campus. In the time that we walked there and back, the weather changed from sunny to cloudy to rainy and back to […]

Colin Caricato, Ireland week 1: From Jet Lag to Joy

So far, this week has been anything but quiet, and I’ve got plenty to fill you in on. What started off as a rough patch has turned into a pretty memorable adventure. First things first, just a few days before my flight, I came down with a virus and a case of heat exhaustion. That’s what I get for tanning outside for two hours when the UV index hit 9 for the first time in weeks. Luckily, by the time I was ready to go to the airport, my virus had calmed down, and from that moment, I was confident […]

Kiki Cohen Week 1: Getting used to the new city.

Blog #1 6/11/25 First week, settling into the Dublin, Ireland Living in Dublin has been a very enlightening and exciting experience that has made me more accustomed to new cultures that I’m not typically familiar with. Getting off the plane at Dublin airport, I was nervous but excited for my experience to come. Although I’ve only been here a few days, I can already tell that Dublin is very different from the cities I’m used to back home in the United States.  For starters, Ireland is beautiful. Here in UCD, my apartment views the grass hills/mountains on one side, and […]

Rayna Tyler Week 1: Settling In

My first week in Dublin has exciting, eye-opening, and surprisingly smooth. Leading up to the trip, I was nervous about the adjustment. I have lived in new cities by myself before, but major changes always bring on new challenges. However, since arriving in Dublin, I have felt more comfortable and happy than any place I have lived before. My trip across the pond was very seamless. I even got my own row on the plane, which has never happened to me before. My ability to relax (well mostly sleep) on the plane calmed my worries about leaving the states for […]

Emilia Lucas, Week 1: Embracing Ambiguity

The first four days we have spent in Dublin have been unlike any endeavor I have ever taken on. This trip is my first ever time in Europe; while it has been increasingly fast paced and nerve wracking thus far, I am incredibly grateful that I have the opportunity not only to visit Dublin, but to live, go to school, work, and experience life in the city. I woke up from a lovely nap on the plane to see our descent over the East coast of Ireland, a beautiful scene. Upon arrival in UCD, I was greeted by five lovely […]
