Campbell Coonley: Week 2 – Learning, Living, and Loving Dublin

As we begin our second week in Dublin, I am shocked by the growth I have experienced in such a short amount of time. I am continuing to familiarize myself with the city, learn new skills at my internship, meet amazing people, and make memories that will last a lifetime.  Last Friday marked the end of my first week with TaxAssist Accountants. I am starting to enjoy my job a lot more, especially since I am getting more familiar and confident with the material I am working with. The days have started to pass more quickly and I continue to […]

Week 2: Finding a Routine

As week two unfolded, I began to truly understand the remarks made by past students about the fast pace of life in this program. Each day is packed with classes, work, excursions, and cultural activities throughout Dublin. While the schedule is full, it’s this very structure that makes the experience so rewarding. A highlight of the midweek was our group’s welcome dinner at The Little Kitchen on Wednesday night—a lovely way to settle further into the city. The rest of the week was filled with work commitments, including a memorable moment on Friday when I had to walk halfway to […]

Week 2: Settling In

This weekend, we had an extremely early morning on Saturday, waking up at 7:00 AM. After a nap on the bus and some much-needed McDonald’s, we took an early tour of the Kilkenny Castle and got to see some of the beautiful architecture while learning a lot about the history of the castle as well as what life used to look like. I loved the castle gardens, and this was a very pleasant morning. Next, we went down to the famous witch pub to grab some lunch and relax. After Lunch, we went shopping for a little bit where I […]

Week 2 in Dublin: Adaptation Week

Joseph Ha In Week 2 of my Dublin escapade, I finally fell into a good routine and began developing habits that already seemed rewarding and long-lasting. Rising at 7:00 AM each morning was a system shock to me at first—before that, I hadn’t awakened that early in almost a year—but by the middle of the week, I was springing out of bed and anticipating the day. There’s something invigorating in those pre-dawn hours: the empty streets, the soft light peeking through the curtains, and the knowledge that I’ve already “won” half the day before most folks are even waking up. […]

Sienna Hurd: Week 2 – From Grafton Street to Glendalough!

It’s been a busy second week in Ireland, and as I continue to explore, things are finally starting to feel a bit more familiar. My internship has been great so far. I’ve begun my project, so I’m always busy, and I’m beginning to become more comfortable around the office. My favorite part is that at 11 am, they have tea time, where everyone goes to the kitchen for a break, but it usually just consists of me and the other interns listening to the gossip going around the office. I’ve been getting familiar with Dún Laoghaire, where I work, and […]

Zoe Bertram: Ireland Week 2 (Work and Play!)

After a chaotic first week in Dublin, I am finally beginning to settle in. I’ve adjusted to the time difference, feel more comfortable at my internship, and have found a routine that balances work, exercise, and fun. My internship has been going really well. My supervisor recently assigned me to a new research project with the National Women’s Council and the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland. Ireland is introducing a new auto-enrollment pension scheme that will automatically enroll individuals between the ages of 23 and 60 who earn over €20,000 into a private pension scheme. While this may sound reasonable […]
