Colin Caricato, Ireland week 6: Games and Good Eats

Week six brings another exciting week here in Dublin, and I have so much that I need to unpack as we are nearing the back half of the trip. First things first, we went to see the Irish House Party perform traditional Irish music and tap dance. The music felt like something straight out of an 18th-century Irish pub and it almost made me feel like I was a fully Irish person myself. In addition to the house party, this weekend we had the pleasure of going to the Experience Gaelic games event. It was a really fun time and […]

Justin Lee – Week 6: Creeping Towards the End

This past week in Dublin was both the end of our “Judging Justice” class and a big moment for reflection. One of the most important things I learned was about the structure of the Irish judicial system and how it compares to the U.S. Supreme Court. I always assumed that the U.S. system was standard, but learning about how Ireland’s courts operate, especially how they select judges and the role of the constitution, made me realize there’s more than one way courts can operate. It challenged my thinking, especially when we were asked which system works better. I couldn’t give […]

Richard Perez, Ireland: Week 6 – The Gaelic Defender

This week was very tiring as I pushed my body to the limit! Last Saturday I walked 10 miles because I had to run some errands and I decided not to take the bus so I can get to know the area by foot better. Surprisingly, Dublin feels a lot smaller when you walk on foot. Unfortunately I chose the wrong Saturday to walk so much because the next day we went to Experience Gaelic Games where we learned how to play Irish Football and Hurling! I was placed on defence for both games, and even though I’m a lot […]

Week 6: A Week of Light Moments: Kilmainham, Gaelic Games & House Party Vibes

It was a relaxed combination of history, sport, and low‑key socializing this week—not life‑changing, but certainly fun and memorable.I went to Kilmainham Gaol one afternoon. Taking a tour around the old jail, viewing the dark cells, and listening to tales of prisoners—from 1798 rebels to leaders of the 1916 Rising—was surprisingly compelling. Kilmainham Gaol served a significant function during Ireland’s fight: it imprisoned common criminals and nationalists alike, was actually reopened during the War of Independence and Civil War, and eventually shut down in 1924. It’s now Europe’s largest disused prison, restored to contain a museum chronicling Ireland’s national narrative. Though […]

Week 6: Games, Golf, and Gears

The weekend got off to an early start on Thursday with a nice salmon dinner at the Irish House Party venue. After some ice cream and brownies for dessert, we headed down to the basement for some traditional Irish music. The music was fun to listen to and clap along to, and we even got to see some traditional Irish tap dancing. After this event, we hit the town to enjoy some Dublin nightlife. Friday, I had to give a two-minute presentation on the company call. After work on Friday, we headed to a nice dinner at a Thai restaurant. […]

Week 6: Cultural Highlights in Dublin

The past few days have been incredibly eventful and filled with memorable experiences. One of the highlights was attending an Irish House Party, which was both lively and culturally enriching. We enjoyed a traditional music and dance performance that was not only entertaining but also gave us insight into Irish heritage. The musicians played with such passion and skill, and the atmosphere in the room was electric. What made the evening even more engaging was the audience interaction — the performers invited us to participate in songs. It was a fun and immersive way to connect with the local culture […]
