Zoe Bertram: Ireland Week 4 (Three Castles and a Concert!)

I can’t believe it’s already week 4 of Bucknell in Dublin – time is flying by! I have been making so many memories exploring Ireland and spending time with friends.

Last week consisted of internship work and new adventures in Dublin. Our group activity on Thursday was a traditional Irish fairy tale session, followed by a traditional Irish dinner. Honestly, the fairy tales were not my favorite, and I didn’t love the traditional Irish dinner afterward, but it was nice to spend time with everyone.

Friday night, Rayna, Emilia, and I grabbed dinner at an Italian restaurant and then headed to a spot called The Bar With No Name. I loved the bar because we found a comfy couch and spent the night chatting, which was a perfect low-key vibe.

Saturday was a very long but exciting day. We had a bright and early wake-up call to get on the bus at 6:50 a.m. and drive to the Rock of Cashel. After a quick walk around the site, I spent the rest of my time rolling down a grassy hill with Lily. I rolled down the hill at least 20 times and got some horrendous grass stains, but it was so worth it. Next up was Blarney Castle, where some kissed the Blarney stone. I opted out of kissing the stone because it grossed me out. Instead, I wandered around the grounds and grabbed some lunch. Our final stop of the day was Cahir Castle, but by then, I was exhausted and ready for a nap on the bus.

We made it back to UCD around 6:50 p.m. – just enough time to freshen up before heading out again at 7:15 for the Backseat Lovers concert. It was definitely a quick turnaround, but I am glad we went. I have never even heard of the Backseat Lovers before, but Rayna and Emilia are big fans, so I went with them. I felt awkward because I didn’t know any of the songs, but the energy was great, and I still had a good time. Afterward, I was very hungry, so I took everyone to a hot dog place called Gauchos Hot Dogs. I enjoyed the hot dog while I was eating it; however, afterward, it did not make me feel well. We ended the night at Bad Bobs- my favorite bar.

Sunday was a lazy start- we slept in late, then went to get brunch at Café en Seine, which was super cute. I definitely want to go back for dinner sometime. The rest of the day was spent grocery shopping and prepping for the week ahead.

On Monday, we had a group trip to the Guinness Storehouse. It was super cool to see how the Guinness is made, even though I cannot drink it! We each received a free drink voucher, but they didn’t have any gluten-free Guinness drinks, so I gave away my voucher and patiently waited for my friends to finish their Guinnesses. I had a very fun week, and I am looking forward to our trip to Northern Ireland this weekend.
