I can’t believe it’s already almost the halfway point of our time here in Dublin. My internship has been going great, they gave me a project to work on alone and I feel like I have learned so much in just the two weeks that I’ve been here. Apart from my internship, this last week has been quite the rollercoaster. The events started with the Irish Folklore and Fairies at the Stag’s Head Pub on Thursday, followed by group dinner. Thursday was a lot of fun because we were all able to leave our internships early and it was nice seeing everyone come straight from work and talk about their days. Our next event of the week was our Saturday day trip.
Although we were running on a very small amount of sleep, it all proved to be very worth it when we arrived at the Rock of Cashel. It had just stopped raining, and the sun was coming out which was the perfect start to our day.
After the Rock of Cashel, we hopped back on the bus and went even further southwest until we got to the Blarney Castle. My friends and I chose to not wait in the long line to kiss the stone but instead go off on our own and explore the area. I’m so glad we did this because we got to see some beautiful sights and found some horses who came right up to us to say hi. After exploring we sat down and grabbed some lunch before heading off to the Cahir Castle. Although I am not the biggest historian, it was cool to hear about the historical significance of the Cahir Castle and even get to see some real cannon balls as well as other historical artifacts.
We made it back to UCD just before 7:00, I headed straight to Centra to buy some beef, and I cooked spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. After dinner I got a shower and found myself in bed by 10:00. (Crazy for a Saturday night in Dublin in my opinion)
Sunday wasn’t a very eventful day, I slept in and woke up around noon, headed straight to the gym with Price, then got back and went grocery shopping. Aidan and I then decided we wanted to put our chef hats on and cooked up quite the dinner. We then spent the rest of the day watching TV and hanging out, preparing for the week ahead.
Monday started off with class, I felt energized and ready to go after finally catching up on sleep Sunday night. After class we headed to the Guinness factory which was honestly so amazing. The factory was super cool and informational and just overall such a fun experience.
Overall, the Dublin experience has been nothing short of awesome. My only complaint from the whole trip is that public transportation sucks. But aside from that, I look forward to what the second half of the trip has in store for me!
