Richard Perez, Ireland: Week 3 – From Coast To Coast!

I had another amazing weekend trip! For our journey to Western Ireland, we first made our way to the cliffs of Moher, which is all the way on the other side of Ireland. It was breath-taking seeing the size and distance of the cliffs, and all the birds flying over the sea looked like gnats. It was truly an amazing sight to behold! Afterwards, we went to the Boren which is another cliff site, but riddled with limestone. It was yet another amazing view and we had a fun time there.

After all the sight-seeing on day 1, we retired to our hostel in Galway. Once we got our lodgings adjusted, I set off to find something interesting to do for the night. I signed up for a pub crawl and I traveled around with a few strangers as we drank, danced, and got to know each other a bit better. I met someone who’s also a college student that’s studying abroad from Mississippi, and I also met a couple who were from Ontario, Canada. After a fun-filled night in Galway, I went to sleep and continued the journey.

On day 2, we went to the Aran Islands and we travelled to Inis More by ferry boat. Once there, we took a bus ride up to the cliffs, and we had an amazing time there too. I also got to try the freshest fish and chips I’ve ever had! Being my first time riding on a boat, it wasn’t so scary, and the ferry boat ride was only 30 minutes long. We also learned a lot about the Aran Islands, and how the people there only have 1 bank and it’s only open for one day a week. Having only a population of around 700 people, it’s no surprise; but it was a surprise to find out that they have 10 bars though! I guess it shows how much the Irish love their libations.

On day 3, we went to Kylemore Abbey and we learned about its history from being privately owned, to being used as a monastery for the nuns, to finally being opened partially as a museum. They also had an amazing flower garden which I took ample pictures of. The last thing we did before we went back to Dublin was ride on another boat called the “Connemara Lady” and we explored the vast beauty of Connemara. All-in-all, this was one of the best experiences of my life, and I’m so glad that the fun isn’t over yet!
