Sienna Hurd: Week 3 – West Coast, Best Coast?

This past weekend, we ventured out to the West Coast of Ireland, where we explored a vibrant city and saw stunning views. Friday morning, we took the day off from our internship and set out by bus bright and early. Our first stop after crossing the country was the Cliffs of Moher. It was the most breathtaking sight. We were extremely lucky with the weather, not only could we see the cliffs clearly, but the sun was shining and the skies were blue, which made the view even more incredible. After walking around and enjoying the view, we stopped for lunch at McDermott’s Pub. I tried bangers and mash, which was really good! After lunch, we headed back on the road before stopping at the Burren, a breathtaking landscape of cracked bedrock along the water. Finally, we arrived in Galway, checked into our hostel, and headed out to explore. My roommates and I grabbed food to eat by the water so we could enjoy the sunshine. Norah and I tried a spice bag, but in our opinion, it was a little overrated.

The next day, we set off to the Aran Islands. We took a ferry over to Inish Mor, where we rented bikes for the day. After a quick lunch in town, we hopped on the bikes and set out to explore. The view was surreal. As we biked along the water, we stopped to see horses, cows, and sheep that were grazing nearby. We ended up biking a total of 10 miles, and it was well worth it. That night, we went out to dinner at Elephant and Castle.

On Sunday, we packed up our stuff and hit the road for another day of incredible sights. We made a quick stop at the Inagh Valley to take some pictures and feed the sheep before continuing our way north. At Kylemore Abbey, we explored the grounds, which included beautiful gardens and a pigsty, although there was only one pig, and it looked a little lonely. We ate lunch there before going to the Killary Fjord. The boat tour was really cool, and I loved getting to see the landscape from the water.

Finally, after a long and exciting weekend, we made our way back to Dublin. Overall, I had such a great time on the West Coast. I’m so grateful that we had good weather, which made the whole trip even better. I’d definitely recommend the Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands, and Galway as must-sees for visitors. As much as I love Dublin, it was really cool to explore a new city!

Loved enjoying this weekend with you Sienna! While the spice bag did slightly disappoint, we made up for it afterwards!
