Kayla Cullinane: Ireland Week 2 (From Grafton to Glendalough)

I’m back again to share more of my fun adventures from my second week here in Ireland! Since my last blog, I’ve had the chance to settle in and explore new places around me including Grafton Street, Kilkenny, and Glendalough.

Walking down Grafton Street is one of my favorite ways to spend my time here. I love stopping to listen to the live music on the streets and wander into new stores I haven’t hear of before. Last week on Wednesday I went into Dublin city during the day and spent a lot of time in St. Stephens Green which is a beautiful park with lakes and lots of birds. Later on I met up with Molly and we went shopping for a little while before our group dinner at The Little Kitchen.

On Friday night, my friends and I went to the restaurant Lemon and Duke right off Grafton Street which was delicious and I would highly recommend going to anyone! After that we met up with a larger group and tried out some new pubs around the city. We had a really fun night and it was nice to catch up with others on how their week has been with their internship.

Saturday was a busy day visiting both Kilkenny and Glendalough. Kilkenny castle and its grounds were amazing and I really enjoyed learning some of the history about the families that used to live there. After a tour of the castle my friends and I walked around downtown and grabbed a bite to eat for lunch before heading to Glendalough. When we arrived there it was sunny and warm out and so I decided to leave my raincoat on the bus. However with not even five minutes of being outside a dark cloud passed over us and it started pouring rain. Although my clothes became drenched a group of us walked to the lake and it was so peaceful to watch the raindrops fall on the lake and it was fun to jump in the puddles!

My last thing to share was on Sunday I was able to meet up with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I went to my little cousins soccer game in the morning and then went for lunch at a local pub afterwards. My aunt and uncle live right near Dundrum shopping center so it is nice how close they are to UCD. After lunch we drove to meet up with my grandparents and other aunt and uncle at a coffee shop in Avoca. I don’t get to see them all very often so it was really great to spend time with them. I look forward to seeing them all again soon!
