Layth Kanafani: First Few Days in Ireland

We landed in Dublin on Saturday, June 7th, at around 8:30 in the morning. After a smooth customs/baggage claim process which lasted 30 minutes at most, the very first thing my friends and I did was head straight to the airport bar for our first legal drink. It felt like the perfect way to kick off the summer that was ahead of us.
That night, we headed to downtown Dublin with one of our fraternity members who had just graduated in this most recent class and happened to be in town. We explored some of the city’s popular spots, watched sports at lively pubs, and socialized with locals and other travelers. The city was very welcoming and super active.
Sunday while we were out and about, we ran into a group of girl roommates which included Molly Walsh who was celebrating her birthday. This then turned into a few hours of conversation, jokes, and making friendships.
Monday was then the start of our academic journey, beginning with 9 am class which exceeded my expectations by a lot. I thought class discussion was interesting and definitely made me think deeper into the topic. Later in the day we visited the EPIC museum which was a good time! On Monday night we finally decided it was time to buy groceries and cook ourselves. We went to ALDI’s which we found to be the cheapest grocery store around and were able to stock up on food so that we can meal prep for our internships. Monday night we had our first home cooked meal of the trip. Some pasta and meatballs made by Price and Ellix.
Tuesday was the first day of my internship, and to be honest it wasn’t exactly what I had hoped for. While everyone was super nice and welcoming, I was placed in a nursing home environment and this made me quickly realize that this side of healthcare isn’t where I want to spend my future. I’ve always been more interested in the medical field from a doctor, pharmacist, of physical therapist perspective. After work I got back to campus and made some chicken and rice, and now I’m doing my school work and getting ready to go back to work tomorrow.
Overall, it has been a busy first few days in Dublin, we still have to get used to using the bus and its varying schedule, but I’m excited (and definitely a little nervous) to see what the rest of the trip will be like.

Chicken and rice I made on Tuesday for internship day 2 lunch.

Super cool golden gorilla my friends and I came across in downtown Dublin.

Our first drink in Dublin airport after landing!

The chicken I made.

EPIC.

Picture I sent my parents of my internship spot when I got there on day 1.
