Aidan O’Malley: Week 7 (3 days, 3 countries)

What a weekend! This weekend, I woke up early on Friday morning to catch a plane to Munich to visit my friend John. After landing in Munich, I had the full day to myself because John had work. I took the chance to explore freely by trying all the different types of German cuisine. Honestly, some of the best food I have ever tried in my life. Once John was done with work, we walked around Marienplatz and visited churches. Friday night, we went out and I was able to try all the different kinds of German food and beer at a Beer garden. Saturday morning, John and I went to the English Gardens in Munich to enjoy a day outside. After spending six long weeks in Dublin experiencing cool weather, I was overjoyed to be able to soak in the sun. While at the English Gardens, John and I played volleyball with some locals and went swimming in the river. As it was my first time there, I was unaware that one of the rivers turned quickly into white water rapids, but luckily, John and I were able to swim out of it. After the English Gardens, we visited St. Peter’s Cathedral. We climbed the Cathedral and were able to go all the way to the top to see a 360-degree view of the entire city of Munich. On Sunday morning, John and I hopped on a train to visit Innsbruck in Austria. Upon arrival in Innsbruck, I was overwhelmed with the pure beauty of the Alps. Even after visiting Nepal and hiking the Himalayas, the Alps in Austria were amazing. John and I decided to take three cable cars up to the top of the mountain. The view from the top was breathtaking. Once at the top, John and I decided to take a four-hour hike around the mountainside. We saw mountain goats and views like no other. After the hike, we stayed up on the mountain to rest and catch the cool breeze from the Alps. Sadly, we had to leave to head back to the great city of Munich. On Monday, John had work again, so I had the entire day to myself before I had to get on my plane in the evening. I spent the day exploring Munich some more and doing some shopping for some souvenirs. Incredibly sad to leave, I boarded my plane back to Dublin. As sad as I was to go, I was happy to be returning to Dublin to see my friends.
