Drawing my last full week in Ireland to a close, I cannot believe how fast it has all flown by. It felt as if a week ago I was arriving in a new country surrounded by new faces and new culture. I no longer feel out of place walking around town and going about my day in Dublin. I have been fully immersed in all aspects of the culture from work to social. I never expected to be the one giving other people directions around town or what bus to take but it is nice to feel like I belong, in a place that felt so foreign not long ago.
This week was filled with simple, shorter nights and relaxing days. My internship was more simple this week as I had been finishing up some of my larger work and am just doing smaller daily tasks as I reach the end. Riley and I also got Thursday as a free day off due to the rest of the office being out for the day at an event. I took that day to relax, sleep in and reset which was much needed after doing so much in the last 7 weeks.
On the weekend, the main event was golfing with Max and Tennyson. Going into the day with high hopes of playing better than the previous week and leaving the day realizing I should maybe retire from golf for the time being. We lost every single ball that we had by the end of the last hole and Tennyson was nearly falling in the water trying to salvage his only ball left. Score aside, this was by far the most fun day of golf that I have ever played in my life. There was slight on and off drizzling rain throughout the first few holes but despite the looming clouds, the weather held off the rest of the day. The course was in beautiful condition, resting at the foot of the Dublin mountains. The combination of the views, company, and rare moments of decent golf, the day was unbeatable. I may not be meant for golfing, but as long as I’m playing with Tennyson and Max I know that I am better than at least one person and I’lll take what I can get.
Sunday night is now classified as Trivia night at DisNDats. We definitely had a showing at trivia night, whether it was a strong showing will be kept for those who saw our performance in person at the pub. There were a few misclicks on the phone causing some answers to be wrong, which I know for a fact would have definitely been right if we actually knew the answer, which we didn’t. Wrapping up trivia, it was music bingo time and wow I never knew that I was so skilled at bingo, the game that is only skill and no luck at all. I ended up winning free drinks for the table and I think the guys took “for the table” literally as 10 seconds later a full drink was spilled all over the table.
We wrapped up the week with a hike and cliff walk at Howth. Waking up to pouring rain was not the greatest thing to see but we still went through with the hike. If I can remove all of the stabbing of my legs from bushes and wet shoes, the hike would have been one of the best things. There were beautiful views hidden behind a sea of clouds which was disappointing, but it was still a good day trip to round off the week.
