Tennyson Kelly: Bucknell in Dublin Week 6 – A Week Full of Sports and Activities

From house parties to Gaelic games, week 6 in Dublin was one that was full of activities!

On Thursday night, we made our way into the city for an Irish House party. We began the night with dinner, which was very good. Following our dinner, we went downstairs to watch the Irish House Party show. The show consisted of traditional Irish Music and dancing. The band was very fun and kept the group engaged. The Irish dancer was also very entertaining, and we were all surprised by how fast she was able to move her feet.

We did not have a trip on Saturday, so Brad, Max, and I scheduled a 7-hole round of golf at the Grange Castle Golf Club. The club is on the outskirts of Dublin, so the bus ride over took almost two hours. The course was set right at the bottom of a bunch of hills, giving us breathtaking views while we played. Although neither of us is very good at golf, we had lots of fun. The highlight of the morning was Brad missing the ball on his first drive on the first hole. The ride home took over two hours, so we decided that we would take a taxi next time.

After we got back from golf, we made a quick turnaround to go to the beach at Howth. We took the bus over, then hopped on the Dart for the first time. The town of Howth was very lively, as many other people were spending the sunny Saturday at the beach. Although rocky, the beach was very nice, and the water felt amazing. It was also nice to get some much-needed sun. On our way out, we got fish and chips from Beshoff’s, which is claimed to be one of the best fish and chips in the area. It was definitely the best fish and chips I’ve ever had.

On Sunday, we went to experience the Gaelic games where we learned how to and played hurling, Gaelic football, and Irish handball. The rules were kind of confusing at first, and the refs kept calling us out for accidentally breaking the rules during our game. I had a lot of fun playing an actual game of these sports, but hurling was definitely my favorite.

On Monday afternoon, we went for a tour of the historic prison at Kilmainham Gaol. The prison was hundreds of years old and had a lot of history, as different parties took control of the prison and used it for different purposes throughout history. It was very cool how we got to go inside the prison cells to get the true feel of how small they were.

This week was a very active one, but there’s no slowing down as we still have many things planned for the coming final few weeks in Dublin.

Golfing was really fun this last week and I’m excited to go again next week! The bus ride was super long but it ended up being worth it in the end. I may have missed the ball in my first swing but I enjoyed watching you climb into the bushes to look for your lost ball after every other swing.

Was a great time playing golf with you this week. Can’t wait to play another round next week.
