Week 6: Irish House Party and the English Spelling of ‘Jail’

Thursday this week, we all went to the Irish House Party event. For dinner I had the Guinness pie, which was good, and then we headed into the basement of the hotel which had a small stage and a full bar. The music and dancing was really good.

On Monday we toured Kilmainham Gaol. The weather wasn’t great, but once we got into the jail that didn’t matter so much. I found some parts of the jail much more impressive than others, but I enjoyed learning about the deep history of the site, and how deeply rooted it is in the Irish independence movement. After the tour, the walk to the bus station was surprisingly beautiful. Two photos I took on the walk back are below.

This week, Lucy and I spent time helping to publish a number of different reports on Friday, when the office was mostly empty, and then we also both spent some time working on moving and converting older long-view calculations into a new API and language. It was initially really frustrating, but we did a lot of planning and organizing, which helped us start to move faster.  I also got the opportunity to help build an economic model for a bank which we haven’t covered before, so I spent time doing research on specific offerings and helping to input data into our systems. The photo below is from the bus ride to work, and I just found it amusing.
