Sienna Hurd: Week 8 – Until Next Time!

It’s our last week in Ireland, and I can’t believe how fast time has flown by. This past weekend was our free weekend, so on Thursday, Molly, Kayla, Nora, Campbell, and I all flew to Mallorca, an Island off of Spain. We spent 4 nights there, soaking up the sun as much as we could. It was a very relaxing trip, and we spent the whole first day lying on the beach. Unfortunately, the bus drivers were on strike while we were there, which made getting around very difficult, but we made it work. On the first night, we had dinner in Port D’Andratx, a charming town on the water. On Saturday, we explored some hidden beaches and had dinner in Peguera, where we were staying. On Sunday, we travelled to Palma, where we went on a Catamaran boat trip. The water was so blue and beautiful, and we had such an amazing time swimming for hours. Afterwards, we walked around Palma’s old town, which had the most beautiful cathedral and castle. Overall, it was an amazing trip, although the heat was definitely not something I’m used to after living in Ireland for the past 8 weeks.

I can’t believe it’s my last week interning at Mental Health Ireland. I have loved working here so much, and it has been such an amazing experience. Since my supervisor, Maria, won’t be here the rest of the week, we said our goodbyes on Tuesday. She gifted me this beautiful necklace as a thank you, along with a really sweet letter that everyone in the office signed. It was such a kind gesture, and it really shows how supportive and welcoming everyone at MHI has been throughout my time here. I’m definitely going to miss our 11 o’clock tea breaks the most. That’s when everyone in the office would gather in the kitchen to chat and share stories, it’s where I really got to know my coworkers and the other interns.

As the summer comes to an end, I can’t help but look back and reflect on how much I’ve grown. Living and working abroad has pushed me outside of my comfort zone in the best way possible. From exploring the Irish countryside to learning the ins and outs of nonprofit work, every part of this journey has helped me become more independent, confident, and open-minded. I’m so grateful for the memories, the friendships, and everything I’ve learned along the way. Ireland will always hold a special place in my heart.
