Lucie Cahill Week 7- Last weekend in Dublin:(

As our time here in Dublin wraps up, this week was bittersweet. I can’t believe this was our last weekend! On Saturday, we headed off on our Celtic Boyne Valley trip. It was crazy how much smaller the group had gotten for this trip. We started out at the Lia Fail stone on the Hill of Tara, which Kiki and I were honestly underwhelmed by. We were expecting it to be like 20 feet tall! Something I really enjoyed from the trip was seeing the fairy trees. I used to be really into fairies when I was little, so it was really cute to see how the Hawthorn fairy trees were covered in little gifts from people, such as shells and flowers. The tour guide explained how you should not touch it or it might be bad luck. She gave an example of how a business cut one down to build a store, and the company immediately went bankrupt. When plans for a new highway in Ireland were made, someone pointed out that a fairy tree would have to be cut down to build it and they immediately rewrote the plans. Now, there the fairy tree sits on a little island on the highway. I think it’s so interesting how respected fairies are in Irish culture. Saturday night, we met up with everyone and went out. The night was fun, however getting home was a nightmare with how messed up the bus schedules have been recently. The 39a never came so we had to take the E1, which was so packed that people started getting turned away. I have never seen that happen before. We all had to stand with crowds of people around us. The bus also stopped further away from campus, so we all had to walk down a dark dirt path. I was so excited to get home after that horrible transportation experience that I ran the whole way. One thing I won’t miss about Dublin is the buses! Monday’s Howth cliff walk was definitely my favorite weekday trip. When I woke up and saw rain was forecasted the entire day, I was dreading the walk because I thought it would be brutal in the pouring rain. However, it was only a light drizzle the whole day. I actually think it made the walk better because it was slightly chilly and the mist was really refreshing. I loved it. Scenic hikes are always one of my favorite things to do on vacation, and looking back I wish I did more of them while I was here! The view was incredible, and we followed it up with some of the best seafood I’ve ever had thanks to the tour guide’s recommendation. I forgot how much I’ve missed a good lobster roll!

Beautiful views on the Howth cliff walk

Trim Castle

Going to miss seeing cute cows everywhere!

Loved this fairy tree

My lobster roll! (Clearly I was too excited because I took a bite before the picture)
