This week was fun for me in the office. I have gotten the chance to switch up my work in the office and embark on a large coding project that involves problem-solving. Although the project has been difficult and frustrating at times, I enjoy the challenge.
On Saturday, we started our journey to Belfast early in the morning with our first stop being at the Titanic museum. Although very sad, this experience was so interesting and I enjoyed learning about the history of the Titanic, which I had limited knowledge about prior. After we went on a political taxi tour around the city of Belfast, mainly looking at the wall separating the Protestants and Catholics. We were able to hear about the history of conflict that occurred between the two religions and how it has formed the city today. Finally, we landed at our hotel where we got settled and then I went out to eat with Nick, Brad, and Tennyson to a place called Nandos which is popular for its chicken within the UK. We spent the night in the town exploring the city as this would be are one and only night in Belfast.
The next morning we headed off for the Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge which had amazing views of the water. We had about an hour and a half here so on the way back from checking out the bridge I split off from the group and went on a journey alone. I walked down a path that and stumbled upon the Larrybane Quarry which turned out to be one of the film locations for the famous show, Game of Thrones. This was such an amazing find and I felt lucky to have found it, although I later felt bad for not bringing anyone with me so that they could experience it as well. We then traveled to the Giant’s Causeway which had sensational views. After we stopped at Ponderosa for lunch, and then headed to sheepdog where I got to hold a baby sheep. Finally, we arrived in Derry and I went out to an Italian restaurant for dinner. We then finished our night drinking a pint of Guinness and watching the end of the John Deere Classic.
On our last day in Northern Ireland, we ended our weekend with a tour of Derry and a visit to the Museum of Free Derry where we learned more about the conflict between Protestants and Catholics. At the end of this week I am definitely feeling tired from all the traveling and ready for a restful week 6, but I am glad to have explored the Northern parts of Ireland and am again wishing that we had more time to explore.
