Sienna Hurd: Week 4 – Castles and Cold Water!

I can’t believe that we’re already going on our fourth week here in Ireland! At this point, I am fully settled in at my internship and have become very familiar and comfortable travelling around Dublin. Here’s a little about my past week!

Last Monday, after class, we visited the Dublin Castle and the Custom House. It was really cool to learn about the history behind both buildings and explore them. On Thursday, one of my friends from home was visiting Dublin to see family, so we met up in the city to grab lunch and walk around. It was really nice to see her!

The weather in Ireland lately has been pretty warm, and I guess I’ve adjusted to the cold because I am not dealing with it well. During my lunch break on Friday, I was at my breaking point, so I stopped at a store and bought a fan. Happy with my purchase, I returned to the office. All of my coworkers and my supervisor thought it was the funniest thing ever and laughed when they saw what I bought, but after a few days with my new fan, I stand by my purchase and couldn’t be happier!

On Saturday, we travelled south for the Blarney Castle day trip. On the way, we stopped at the Rock of Cashel, which was very cool to see. We arrived at Blarney Castle around noon, and there was a huge line to kiss the Blarney Stone. A few of us decided it would be worth the wait, and we joined the line. It was definitely a cool experience and I’m glad I did it, although I’m not so sure I have the gift of the gab…

On Sunday, my roommates and I explored Dun Laoghaire! I work in Dun Laoghaire and think it’s very beautiful, so I was very excited to spend more time there. On our way there, we stopped in Blackrock to walk around the Blackrock Market, which had a bunch of cool art and jewelry. We then went to Forty Foot, which was so awesome! At first, I was a bit wary that the water would be freezing, but after the initial shock of jumping in, it wasn’t so bad. After swimming for a little bit, we walked around the Dun Laoghaire Farmers’ Market and sat in the park, enjoying the beautiful day. So many people were out and about, lying in the sun, picnicking on the grass, and dancing around, it was the perfect way to wrap up the weekend!
