Layth Kanafani: Week 3 (Back to Being Employed)

It has been quite a busy third week in Dublin. First and foremost, I had my second first day of the trip, this time at my new internship at the Beacon Hospital. I really enjoyed my first two days at the new internship, I feel like there is so much I can learn here and I look forward to going back and continuing my work on the project I started last week.

Apart from work, this weekend of trips has been one to remember. The wake up Friday was terrible, but it was all worth it when we got to the Cliffs of Moher and saw the beautiful view. The views at the Cliffs of Moher were truly ones straight out of a movie, and completely left my friends and me speechless. After leaving the Cliffs of Moher, we went to The Burren which was another area that seemed straight out of a movie. After taking hundreds of pictures and walking 30,000 steps, we finally went to our hostel where we spent very little time getting ready before heading straight to the St. Patrick’s FC vs. Galway United soccer game. Unfortunately, despite dominating the entirety of the game St. Patrick’s made too many costly errors and ended up losing the game 3-1. Saturday was just as long of a day, we had another early wake up and spent the day on the Aran Islands, getting there and leaving on a ferry which was super cool. On the Island we got to bike around on our own and explore at our own pace. Unfortunately I learned that I am not a very good biker and spent most of the time exploring on foot (which I still enjoyed very much). Saturday night in Galway was a lot of fun because a lot of us on the trip met up together when we were out and spent the night getting to know each other. I got to get to know some people on the trip who I had not really interacted with yet, and that was such a fun time. Sunday was yet another long day which started with a self tour of Kylemore castle/ garden. After the tour at the castle we had a boat trip which was a blast. My friends and I were the only ones on the front of the boat for about the first 15 minutes of the ride, taking in all the views. After the boat ride, we had a 4 hour bus ride back to UCD to wrap up the eventful weekend. Monday we visited the Dublin castle and Customs house. These trips were super informational and taught me a lot about Ireland history.

Overall, this has been such a cool experience, the only things I am not a fan of are bagging my own groceries and no cold water to drink in the apartments. Everyone says drink from the sink, but it just is not refreshing enough. Tomorrow, I go back to work and kick off week 4 of blogging. I’m super excited for the week ahead and look forward to making more memories.
