It’s been a busy second week in Ireland, and as I continue to explore, things are finally starting to feel a bit more familiar. My internship has been great so far. I’ve begun my project, so I’m always busy, and I’m beginning to become more comfortable around the office. My favorite part is that at 11 am, they have tea time, where everyone goes to the kitchen for a break, but it usually just consists of me and the other interns listening to the gossip going around the office. I’ve been getting familiar with Dún Laoghaire, where I work, and on one of the days we got let out early, it was really nice out, so I went for a walk on the pier before heading back to campus. Most nights, my roommates and I make dinner in our apartment, but on Friday, we all went out to dinner in the city. We went to Little Lemon, and all shared a variety of tapas, which were really good.
On Saturday, we had our first day trip to the Wicklow Mountains. We started off the day by driving to Kilkenny, where we toured Kilkenny Castle before walking around. The castle was really cool, and it luckily stopped raining before we walked around the town. My friends and I went to Matt The Millers Bar & Restaurant for lunch. Next, we drove to Glendalough, where we got to walk around the monastic site. The scenery was amazing, and I thought the rainy atmosphere made it look even better. That night, we went back out into the city for more exploring. Monday, we visited the National Museum of Ireland, where we got to see the bog bodies. It was a bit unsettling but very interesting. On Tuesday, my work gave me the day off because they had a company meeting outside of Dublin, so I had the full day to explore on my own. I ended up just going into the city to walk around. I shopped on Grafton Street and tried Bambinos, a popular New York-style pizza shop, for lunch. When I was walking on the street, a guy dressed in all green hid in the bushes and jumped out to scare me. My heart stopped, and I was so confused, but I later found out that he records videos of himself doing this and posts them on social media, which is pretty funny. Overall, I’ve had a great time exploring the city and at my internship, and I’m really looking forward to the trip to the West Coast this weekend!
