It’s been a pretty good second week for me here in Dublin. Since my last blog post, I haven’t been back to my original internship. After realizing that it wasn’t the right fit for me, I stepped away from the nursing home placement. Although I was only there for two days, I knew that this would be the right thing for me to do so that I can enjoy the trip and make the most of the experience. But just yesterday I was offered a new internship role to do research and job shadow at Beacon Hospital and I am very excited for my first day which is tomorrow.
Although I am excited for my first day tomorrow, I really enjoyed my short time being unemployed. Last week Aidan and I both found ourselves unemployed on Thursday and Friday while transitioning into new roles, and we made the most of it. One of the highlights of our day off on Thursday was buying a TV for our apartment, a purchase that has already proven to be very worth it.
Outside of internship stuff, the past six days have been packed with some really cool trips. We visited Glendalough Monastery, took a guided tour of Kilkenny Castle, and saw the Wicklow Mountains. Each place had its own charm, but the garden and fountain area behind Kilkenny Castle were my favorite parts.
We also had some free time to explore Kilkenny on our own, which gave us the chance to visit the cathedral and grab lunch in town. I loved having time to go off on our own and explore and do things which we find interesting. If I had one small regret from the day, it’s that we didn’t have enough time at Glendalough to make it out to the second lake. I heard it’s beautiful, but I’m glad Price and Aidan decided to sprint out there and get some pictures for the group.
Apart from school trips, Ellix, Price, Aidan, and I went to Richmond Park to watch St. Patrick’s FC vs. Drogheda United. We had some of the best seats in the stadium and atmosphere was amazing. Unfortunately St. Patrick’s were unable to come away with a win as the game ended in a 0-0 draw but it was still such an amazing experience and I hope we get to go to another game in the next couple weeks.
As much as I loved the places we saw, I think my favorite part of these trips might have been the bus rides. They were filled with laughter, games, and good conversations, on top of all that, we had a really fun week of going out as a group.
